Timing

I thought I saw you
in the face of a stranger
and suddenly my heart lifted
and I realised how I wanted you.

My toes curled
and my chest rose
pale and froze
at this mere representation of you.
And it wasn’t until then
that I knew I was for you
as the sky is for the sea
and the whitest bloodied rose
for my true loves gentle grasp.

I knew I was for you
and only you
and you were gone.
